• Files and buffers are used only once because they cannot be sterilised. A professional will open new ones or keep a personal kit labelled with your name.
• The technician cleans their hands before touching yours, and the workstation is wiped between clients.
• Pedicure basins contain fresh water and ideally use disposable liners.
• Cuticles are pushed back and tidied gently. They should never be cut until they bleed. Bleeding is not a sign of thorough work. It is dangerous.
• Products remain in their original bottles and look and smell normal.
The Warning Signs
Trust your eyes.
• Tools are taken directly from a drawer with no sealed pouches in sight.
• You experience pain during cuticle work. Pain is a warning, not a professional standard.
• The price is so low that corners may be getting cut. Proper sterilisation and fresh supplies cost money.

• How do you sterilise your metal tools?
• Is this file new for me?
• Can I see the tools before we begin?
If your questions offend them, you have your answer.
